How we rank cold plunges

This page exists because most cold plunge content is either brand marketing or affiliate copy dressed as testing. We are an affiliate site too. What follows is the specific set of rules that governs what we publish, so you can judge whether to trust any of it.

1. Where our numbers come from

Every price, temperature, dimension, capacity, material, filtration and warranty figure on this site was read off the manufacturer’s own product page. Each product records the date it was read, and that date is printed on the page.

We do not use retailer listings, marketplace pages or review-site figures as sources for specifications or prices.
We do not carry specifications forward between model generations. If a brand replaces a model, the old numbers are retired with it.
Where a manufacturer publishes conflicting figures on the same page — which happened once in our catalog, on water capacity — we publish neither and say so.
We do not list discontinued products as though they were current.

2. What a blank field means

When a manufacturer does not publish a figure, we print “Not published” and move on. We never estimate, never interpolate from a similar model, and never back-calculate a figure from other dimensions and present the result as a specification.

This makes some of our tables look patchy. That is the point — the gaps are real, and a table with no gaps in this category is usually a table with invented numbers in it. Where a gap materially affects a purchase, we say so directly: 21 of our 21 catalog entries carry an explicit caveat for this reason.

3. What we refuse to publish

Star ratings and scores. We have not physically tested these units. A numeric score would imply testing we have not done.
Review counts and testimonials. We have no customers to quote and will not borrow anyone else’s.
Urgency and scarcity claims. No countdown timers, no “only 3 left”, no invented deal deadlines. Where we note a price is discounted, it is because the manufacturer displayed a regular price alongside it.
Performance claims we cannot source. We will not tell you how much ice a tub needs per session or what it costs to run per month, because almost no manufacturer publishes the underlying figures and any specific number would be invented.
Health claims. We are a buying guide, not a medical resource.

4. What we actually compare on

Since we do not score products, our guides sort them by the criteria that are genuinely decidable from published data:

Total cost of the configuration — the tub plus the chiller plus required accessories, not the headline price.
Chiller capacity against water volume — horsepower alone is meaningless without gallons.
Interior dimensions, not exterior — the difference can exceed thirty inches.
Warranty length by component — shell coverage and chiller coverage are frequently different, and the shell is the part you cannot replace.
Disclosure quality — a brand that publishes an insulation R-value, a cooling rate or an interior dimension is making itself checkable. We credit that, and we note when a brand does not.

5. How the money works

We intend to earn affiliate commission on outbound product links. We currently participate in 1 brand programme. Links to those brands are marked rel="sponsored"; links to brands we have no relationship with are not.

Commission rates do not affect which products we include. Our catalog includes brands with no affiliate programme we could verify.
Commission rates do not affect what we say. Several of the most critical passages on this site concern brands we hope to earn from.
We do not accept payment for inclusion, placement or a favourable write-up, and we will not.
Every outbound URL on this site is resolved from a single configuration file, so we can state the above precisely rather than approximately.

6. Where the photographs come from

The same rule applies to pictures as to numbers: nothing invented. No image on this site is AI-generated. Every photograph was taken by a named human, is licensed for commercial use, and is credited under the image and again on our image credits page.

You will notice there are no product photographs anywhere on this site. That is deliberate. We are not yet approved in any of these manufacturers’ affiliate programmes, so we hold no licence to their product images — and putting a generic picture of somebody else’s tub next to a product name would be exactly the kind of thing this page exists to rule out. Until we have the rights, product pages carry a link to the manufacturer’s own photographs instead of a stand-in.

7. Corrections

Prices in this category move constantly, and several of ours were captured during promotional pricing. If a figure here is wrong or out of date, we want to fix it rather than defend it. Manufacturers are welcome to send corrections with a link to the page carrying the correct figure, and we will update the entry and its verification date.
